Formula One is a 1993 arcade racer for the Sega Genesis, published by Domark and developed by the French studio Lankhor as a Formula 1-licensed reworking of their earlier Atari ST game Vroom. Rather than aiming for simulation, it puts players behind the wheel of a 1993-season F1 car in a pseudo-3D third-person view, racing the full twelve-track championship against licensed drivers and teams from tracks like Silverstone, Monaco, and Monza.
How to Play
The goal in championship mode is to finish each race in the top six to keep your season alive; drop out of the points and you’ll be offered a retry or sent to a game over screen. Before a race you can tune your car’s tyre hardness, wing angle, and transmission, and during longer races tyre wear and engine overheating force pit stops for fuel and a spoiler check. A separate arcade mode rewards overtaking and penalises being overtaken instead of tracking a full championship, and there’s a two-player split-screen option for head-to-head races. Controls use the site’s standard Genesis mapping: arrow keys to steer, accelerate, and brake, Z/X/C for the action buttons (including turbo and pit-menu selections), and Enter to start or pause.
A turbo mode is available for a faster, more arcade-y pace, and cars can bump into or jump over each other on track rather than simply colliding.
