Fatal Run is a post-apocalyptic vehicular combat game developed by Sculptured Software for the Atari 2600 in 1989. You drive a heavily armed car through a wasteland to deliver a radiation vaccine to surviving cities, battling mutant drivers and dodging barricades along the way. Points earned by destroying enemies and completing tracks are spent between levels to upgrade your vehicle’s engine, armor, tires, and weapons.
How to play
Your objective is to safely reach the next settlement before the time limit expires, keeping your vehicle intact and the vaccine secure. The browser controls are mapped to the Atari joystick:
- Steer / Accelerate / Brake: Arrow keys
- Fire weapon: Spacebar
- Turbo boost: Delete key
- Select / Pause: F11 / Alt+P
Tips
- Upgrade your engine and tires first: Better speed and handling are essential for surviving the later, more crowded tracks.
- Save your turbo for emergencies: The turbo boost helps you blast through enemy blockades, but using it drains your limited fuel faster.
- Memorize the track layouts: At high speeds, reacting to obstacles is difficult; knowing where barricades and turns are in advance is key.
