Faster, Harder, More Challenging Q*bert is an unreleased 1983 arcade prototype developed by Warren Davis as a direct continuation of the classic puzzle platformer. Originally intended as an operator upgrade, it cranks up the difficulty with a significantly faster pace, newly introduced enemies like Q*bertha, and moving escape disks that require precise timing.
How to Play
The core objective remains the same: guide Q*bert around the isometric pyramid, changing the color of every cube by jumping on it while avoiding hazards. The game uses a diagonal four-way joystick (mapped to the arrow keys in your browser) to hop between blocks. You must now adapt to new enemy patterns and use the moving side-disks strategically to lure Coily the snake off the board.
Tips
- The escape disks are no longer stationary. You must time your jump carefully to land on one, or you will plummet off the pyramid.
- The new enemy, Q*bertha, actively alters the colors of the cubes back to their original state. Prioritize clearing the area she occupies.
- Don’t linger in the bottom corners; the increased speed makes it much easier for Coily or Ugg to trap you.
