Developed by Namco and released for the NES in 1987, Family Boxing (Japan) is a classic sports title known internationally as Ring King. The game challenges you to rise through the boxing ranks from an amateur fighter to a world champion by taking on a series of increasingly tough opponents in the ring.
How to Play
The objective is to deplete your opponent’s stamina and score a knockout before the round ends. Use the arrow keys (NES D-pad) to move your boxer around the ring, dodge, and duck. Press the Z and X keys (A and B buttons) to throw jabs, hooks, and uppercuts, and Enter/Shift (Start/Select) to pause or navigate menus. Combining movement with attack buttons allows you to throw stronger, lunging punches.
Tips
- Watch your stamina: Throwing careless punches will quickly tire you out and leave you vulnerable. Conserve your energy and wait for clear openings.
- Counter-attack: Master the art of dodging. Wait for your opponent to miss a heavy swing, then step in with a quick combination.
- Control the ring: Positioning is important. Try to trap your opponent against the ropes to limit their movement and land consecutive blows.
