Game description:

Exzisus is a challenging horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up released for arcades by Taito in 1987. You start the game piloting a giant flying mecha that can walk along planetary surfaces or boost through the air, shooting forward and dropping back-mounted bombs to fend off mechanical enemy forces. What makes the game stand out is its transformation mechanic: collecting “A” power-up items turns your robot into a sleek spaceship, trading the ability to safely touch the ground for increased health and speed. Along the way, you can also collect robotic animal companionsโ€”a dog and a birdโ€”that fly alongside you to provide crucial extra firepower.

How to Play

Your goal is to survive intense waves of enemies, meteor showers, and complex boss battles across four different planets. If you complete all the stages, the game loops at a higher difficulty.

  • Insert Coin: Shift
  • Start: Enter
  • Move: Arrow Keys
  • Fire / Action: Z, X, C

Tips

  • Transformation trade-offs: When you transform into the spaceship form using the “A” power-up, you gain health but can no longer safely brush against ground surfaces. Stay centered when flying as the ship.
  • Use the terrain: In your initial robot form, you can land and walk along the ground, which allows you to crouch under certain enemy projectiles.
  • Protect your companions: The robotic animal helpers are essential for surviving the later loops. Keep them safe so they can continue to cover your blind spots with additional fire.
