Euro Champ ’92 is an action-packed arcade soccer game developed by Taito in 1992, released to coincide with that year’s European Football Championship. As an updated version of Taito’s classic Football Champ (known as Hat Trick Hero in Japan), it delivers fast-paced, highly physical gameplay that prioritises arcade fun over strict simulation. Teams represent various European nations competing for the championship, with matches taking place on a horizontally scrolling pitch.
How to Play
The goal is to lead your national team to victory in the tournament. Use the Arrow Keys to move your selected player. On offense, press Z to pass the ball and X to shoot. On defense, Z performs a sliding tackle, while X is used for riskier, aggressive moves like shirt-pulling or even punching the opponent. The game is famous for its lenient referee, who must be physically nearby to spot fouls.
Tips
- Play dirty: Don’t be afraid to use aggressive physical attacks to steal the ball. As long as the referee isn’t looking directly at the action, you can get away with blatant fouls.
- The Super Shoot: If your team’s designated captain receives a high cross near the opponent’s penalty boxโespecially when the match is tiedโhitting the shoot button can unleash an unstoppable “Super Shoot” that guarantees a goal.
- Watch the scanner: Use the mini-map radar at the bottom of the screen to keep track of your teammates’ positioning for long passes.
