Game description:

Released in 1994 by Shiny Entertainment, Earthworm Jim is a wildly inventive run-and-gun platformer for the Sega Genesis. Players take control of Jim, an ordinary earthworm who gains extraordinary powers after a high-tech robotic suit falls from the sky. Known for its surreal humor, striking hand-drawn animation, and challenging gameplay, it remains a standout classic of the 16-bit era.

How to Play

The objective is to navigate Jim through a variety of bizarre alien worlds to rescue Princess What’s-Her-Name. You’ll need to platform across hazardous terrain, swing from hooks, and blast enemies with your plasma blaster. In the browser emulator, the default controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow Keys to move, press Z to shoot, X to jump, and C to use Jim’s head as a whip. Press Enter to start the game.

Tips

  • Ammo for Jim’s plasma blaster is limited, so conserve your shots and rely on your whip attack for weaker enemies.
  • When swinging from hooks, make sure to time your release at the peak of the arc to maximize your jumping distance.
  • Explore carefully! Many levels contain secret areas and false walls that hide extra lives and essential health pickups.
