Released by Sega in 1989, ESWAT: Cyber Police is a side-scrolling run-and-gun arcade game that puts you on the gritty streets of Liberty City. You begin your shift as a standard police officer equipped with only a basic pistol. By surviving the tough urban environments and taking down criminal syndicates, you eventually earn a promotion to the elite ESWAT division, granting you access to the heavily armed I.C.E. combat suit to unleash serious firepower on tougher enemies.
How to Play
Your objective is to reach the end of each stage, defeating the criminals and bosses that stand in your way. Use the directional keys (acting as the arcade joystick) to move and crouch, with action keys (typically Z, X, or C) for jumping and firing your weapon. You can jump between foreground and background planes to dodge attacks or reach new areas. Once you are equipped with the I.C.E. armor later in the game, your standard pistol is replaced with a devastating, fully automatic chaingun. In the suit, you can also collect special limited-use super weapons to clear the screen when overwhelmed.
Tips
- When starting out as a rookie officer, your pistol is weak, so focus heavily on dodging and using the multi-plane movement to avoid incoming fire.
- Save your screen-clearing super weapons for boss encounters or moments when you are completely boxed in by enemies.
- Be careful when jumping between planes, as it leaves you momentarily vulnerable; only switch depths when necessary to avoid hazards or pursue targets.
