Game description:

Darius II is a 1989 horizontal scrolling shooter developed by Taito for the Arcade. Set in a solar system invaded by aquatic-themed robotic enemies, players pilot the Silver Hawk through branching stages to defeat the Belsar fleet. The game retains the series’ signature non-linear level design and memorable boss battles while introducing a new mechanic that allows players to capture and command enemy mid-bosses.

How to Play

Navigate the Silver Hawk through waves of enemies while collecting weapon and shield power-ups. At the end of each zone, you must defeat a large, aquatic-themed boss before choosing which branching path to take for the next stage. Use Shift (or 5) to insert a coin and Enter (or 1) to start. Move your ship with the Arrow keys, and fire your primary weapons and bombs using Z, X, and C.

Tips

  • Capture Mid-Bosses: Destroy the glowing core of a mid-boss to capture it, making it fight alongside you as an invincible ally until it takes enough damage.
  • Choose Your Path Wisely: The branching zone map allows you to pick your difficulty. Generally, taking the upper paths results in an easier route, while the lower paths are much more challenging.
  • Manage Power-ups: Weapon upgrades change your firing pattern. If you prefer a wide spread over concentrated lasers, you may want to intentionally avoid certain weapon power-ups.
