Crazy Climber is a pioneering 1980 arcade action game developed by Nichibutsu. As one of the earliest games to feature a unique dual-joystick control scheme, it challenges you to scale four towering skyscrapers. You must coordinate both hands to climb window by window while surviving an onslaught of falling hazards, from flower pots and dumbbells to a giant ape.
How to Play
The objective is to reach the roof of the building and grab the waiting helicopter. The original arcade cabinet used two joysticks, controlling the climber’s left and right hands independently. To ascend, you must physically mimic a climbing motion by moving one arm up to catch a ledge, pulling down to hoist your body, and then reaching up with the other arm. In the browser, these joysticks are typically mapped to two distinct clusters of keys (such as the Arrow keys and WASD). Avoid closing windows, falling debris, and live wires to survive.
Tips
- Watch the windows: Open windows will flash shortly before they shut. Do not hold onto a closing window, or you will lose your grip and fall.
- Maintain your grip: Always ensure at least one hand is firmly anchored to a ledge before moving the other. If you are hit by a falling object while transitioning, you will drop.
