Game description:

Congo Bongo is a 1983 Sega action-platformer, ported to the Atari 2600 from the arcade original. You play a safari hunter chasing Bongo, a gorilla who hurls coconuts and sends other jungle hazards in your path. The port preserves the arcade’s isometric viewpoint — a distinctive look uncommon on home consoles in 1983 — scaled to fit the Atari 2600’s hardware constraints.

How to Play

Reach Bongo at the top of each stage. You cannot fight back, so survival is all about timing: dodge the coconuts and animals he throws, and pick your moment to advance.

Tips

  • The isometric angle makes gaps look shorter than they are — count grid squares before committing to a jump.
  • Coconuts and animals follow repeating patterns. Find a safe spot and watch a full cycle before moving through a busy section.
  • Falling costs a life more often than enemies do. Favour cautious routes until you know the stage.
