Columns III: Revenge of Columns is a puzzle game released for the Sega Genesis in 1993 by Sega. Diverging from the traditional single-player endless modes of its predecessors, this third entry focuses heavily on competitive multiplayer puzzle action. Players match falling gems by color horizontally, vertically, or diagonally to clear their board and send penalty blocks to their opponent’s screen, making it a fast-paced, head-to-head experience.
The objective is to force your opponent’s play area to fill up to the top. As jewels drop, you can cycle their order and position them to create chains of three or more matching colors. For Sega Genesis in the browser, default controls map the D-pad to the arrow keys for movement, while the Z and X keys act as the A and B buttons to cycle the jewels. Press Enter to start.
Focus on setting up chain reactions (combos) rather than just clearing single lines. A well-timed combo not only clears your board faster but drops punishing blocks onto your opponent, which is critical for winning in the single-player campaign against the CPU.
