Chalvo 55: Super Puzzle Action is a 1997 Japan-exclusive puzzle-platformer for the Game Boy by Japan System Supply. Originally conceived as the successor to the unreleased Virtual Boy title Bound High!, the game features Chalvo, a robot who can transform into a bouncing ball. Players must navigate single-screen and scrolling stages by manipulating Chalvo’s momentum to dodge traps, defeat enemies, and collect the crystals needed to clear each boss.
How to Play
Your main objective is to gather crystals scattered throughout the stages while managing Chalvo’s bouncy physics. By shifting between his walking robot form and his bouncing ball form, you can reach higher platforms, crush enemies from above, and break blocks to clear a path to the exit.
- D-Pad / Arrow Keys: Move left or right
- A / Z: Jump
- B / X: Transform into a ball
- Start / Enter: Pause the game
- Select / Shift: Give up / Restart the current stage
Tips
- Conserve momentum: When in ball form, your bounce height is affected by the height you fell from. Use high ledges to build up the necessary height to reach otherwise inaccessible areas.
- Plan your route: Some blocks break after a single bounce, meaning you can easily trap yourself if you destroy your only path forward. Survey the screen before committing to a drop.
