Castlequest is an action-puzzle platformer released by ASCII Corporation for the NES in 1985. You explore a sprawling, non-linear castle to rescue Princess Margarita, carefully managing a limited supply of colored keys to unlock matching doors and solve unforgiving room-based puzzles.
How to play
Your goal is to navigate the castle's 100 rooms, collecting keys and opening doors to progress. Use the arrow keys to move and climb ladders, X to jump, and Z to attack enemies with your sword. You must also push boxes and barrels to create platforms, using them to reach high ledges or bridge gaps.
Tips
- Conserve your keys. Keys are a strictly limited resource. Opening the wrong door can leave you permanently unable to progress, so plan your route before committing.
- Think before you push. Once a block is pushed against a wall, it cannot be pulled back. One wrong move can trap you, forcing a restart of the room.
