Developed by Hudson Soft and released in Europe in 1993, Castle Quest brings deep, turn-based tactical strategy to the Game Boy. Inspired by chess and light RPG mechanics, the game challenges you to command a variety of fantasy units on grid-based battlefields, carefully positioning your forces to capture enemy strongholds and defeat opposing armies. Its methodical pace stands out in the handheld's library, offering a thoughtful and deliberate experience for strategy fans.
How to Play
Your objective is to outmaneuver the enemy army by taking advantage of your units' unique movement patterns and combat strengths to capture their castle. Navigate the grid with the D-pad, press A to confirm movements or initiate attacks, and use B to cancel actions. Press Start to access the tactical menu. In your web browser, the D-pad is mapped to the arrow keys, A is Z, B is X, and Start is Enter.
Tips
- Protect your commander: Much like the King in chess, your main unit is critical. Keep it shielded behind more resilient troops and avoid exposing it to direct attacks.
- Learn unit ranges: Every unit type has a specific movement and attack range. Familiarize yourself with these to avoid walking into traps and to set up coordinated strikes against the enemy.
