Game description:

Bushido Blade is a groundbreaking 3D fighting game developed by Light Weight and released for the PlayStation in 1997. Unlike traditional fighters of its era, it abandons health bars and time limits in favor of a realistic, tactical combat system where a single well-placed strike can end the match instantly.

How to play

The objective is to defeat your opponent in a duel using traditional Japanese weaponry, ranging from katanas to naginatas. Combat relies on reading your opponent’s stance and anticipating their movements. Use the D-pad to move freely around the environment, and the face buttons to execute high, mid, and low attacks, as well as to block. In the browser emulator, the D-pad maps to the arrow keys, with Z, X, A, and S handling your main actions. Enter serves as Start.

Tips

  • Manage your stances: Each weapon features high, mid, and low stances. Switch between them dynamically to counter your opponent’s guard.
  • Use the environment: The 3D arenas are free-roaming. You can run to higher ground for an advantage or lure enemies into bamboo groves to restrict their swings.
  • Honor the code: In single-player mode, striking an opponent in the back or attacking before they are ready is dishonorable and can lock you out of the true ending.
