Released for the NES in 1990 by KID and Taxan, Burai Fighter is a fast-paced, multi-directional shooter that challenges you to stop an invasion of alien cyborgs. Unlike traditional shoot-’em-ups that only let you fire forward, this game allows you to shoot in eight different directions as the screen scrolls horizontally, vertically, and even from an overhead perspective.
How to Play
Your objective is to infiltrate and destroy seven distinct bases operated by the evil Burai forces. You’ll need to collect power-ups to upgrade your laser, missile, and ring weapons to survive the relentless onslaught of enemies. In your browser, use the arrow keys to move and aim. Press Z and X to fire your weapons and deploy bombs. Use Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Focus on upgrading one weapon type initially; fully powered weapons are crucial for defeating the tough end-of-level bosses.
- Master the eight-directional firing system early. Since the screen can scroll in any direction, enemies will swarm you from all angles.
- Use the terrain to your advantage. You can hide behind walls to block incoming enemy projectiles while firing diagonally to clear a path.
