Bosconian New Version is a multi-directional scrolling space shooter released for the arcade by Namco in 1981. Building on the foundation of the original release, this revision tweaks enemy behaviors and allows players to continue from where they died rather than restarting the entire level. You pilot a starship through open space, navigating asteroid fields and dodging enemy fighters while hunting down heavily fortified space stations.
How to play
Your objective is to clear the sector by destroying all the green, hexagonal enemy space stations. A station can be destroyed either by blasting all six of its outer defensive pods or by firing a single precise shot into its central core when the blast doors open. Keep an eye on the radar to track station locations and incoming enemy formations. Use the arrow keys to steer your ship, and press Z or X to fire your twin lasers forward and backward simultaneously. Press Enter or Shift to start.
Tips
- Target the core: While shooting the outer pods is safer, slipping a shot into the central core is much faster. Wait for the doors to open, align your shot, and fire before retreating.
- Watch your back: Since your ship fires from the rear as well, you can safely destroy pursuing enemies by flying directly away from them while shooting.
- Mind the condition alert: The game warns you of incoming attacks with color-coded alerts and voice synthesis. When the alert turns red, expect a massive enemy formation and prepare to take evasive action.
