Battlantis is a fixed-screen arcade shooter released by Konami in 1987 (this page runs the Japan program code E revision). You play as Cripeus, the young king of Battlantis, defending his castle from a horde of invading monsters using nothing but a crossbow. The action plays like a siege-defense take on Space Invaders: the entire enemy troop marches back and forth across the screen, and every time its flank reaches the edge, the whole formation steps forward, closer to the castle walls, until you clear it out.
How to Play
Your objective is to repel each wave of monsters with well-aimed crossbow shots before the formation reaches and climbs the castle walls. Movement is limited to left and right along the base of the screen, timed with your shots.
Default Browser Controls:
- Insert Coin: Shift (or 5)
- Start: Enter (or 1)
- Movement: Left / Right Arrow Keys
- Fire Crossbow: Z
Tips
- Hit the flanks first: the formation only steps forward when a soldier on its outer edge reaches the screen border, so prioritizing the flanking enemies slows the whole troop’s advance toward your walls.
- Keep a steady rhythm: since your only movement is side to side, sweeping back and forth while firing consistently lines up more hits than chasing individual targets.
