Released by Nintendo in 1990 for the Game Boy, Balloon Kid takes the classic physics-based flying of its NES predecessor and expands it into a full side-scrolling adventure. Players guide Alice through a series of challenging, obstacle-filled stages to rescue her brother, navigating the skies using a pair of balloons.
How to Play
To stay airborne, rapidly tap the flap button to gain altitude and use the directional pad to steer. Your goal is to reach the end of each stage without falling into the water or being struck by enemies. If your balloons are popped, tap the flap button rapidly to slow your descent, land safely, and press down repeatedly to pump up new ones.
- Move / Steer: Arrow Keys
- Flap / Pump Balloons: Z
- Release Balloons: X
- Start: Enter
- Select: Shift
Tips
- You can press the release button to intentionally drop your balloons, allowing you to walk normally on the ground or drop through tight gaps.
- In forced-scrolling sections, stay near the middle of the screen to give yourself time to react to upcoming hazards.
- If you lose one balloon, you can still fly, but your lift will be significantly reduced. Find a safe spot to land and re-inflate immediately.
