Game description:

Astérix and the Great Rescue is a notoriously challenging action-platformer developed by Core Design and released for the Sega Genesis in 1993. Playing as either Asterix or his super-strength companion Obelix, you must navigate through treacherous Roman camps, forests, and galleys to save Getafix the druid and Dogmatix. The game stands out for its large, colorful sprites that beautifully capture the classic comic book art style, but beneath the charming visuals lies a demanding adventure that requires precise timing and careful puzzle-solving.

How to play

Guide your chosen Gaul to the end of each level, managing your health and utilizing character-specific abilities to overcome Roman soldiers and environmental hazards. You will often need to collect and correctly place items like floating clouds or explosives to reach new areas.

  • Movement: Arrow Keys
  • A Button: S
  • B Button: X
  • C Button: Z
  • Start / Pause: Enter

Tips

  • Choose the right Gaul: Asterix is smaller and faster, making him better suited for tight platforming sections. Obelix is slower, but his brute strength is essential for moving heavy blocks and dealing with tougher Roman soldiers.
  • Manage your items: You will frequently need to use consumable items like clouds and bombs to progress. Pay close attention to your surroundings and use these tools carefully, as wasting them can leave you stuck.
  • Take it slow: This is not a game you can rush through. Enemies often spawn unexpectedly, and the large character hitboxes mean you will easily take damage if you move recklessly.
