Arch Rivals is a 1989 arcade-style basketball game developed by Midway and ported to the Sega Genesis. Billed as a “Basketbrawl,” this early precursor to NBA Jam throws traditional fouls out the window in favor of aggressive 2-on-2 hoops. Punching opposing players is not only permitted but practically required to force turnovers, making for a fast-paced and chaotic sports game.
How to play
Outscore the opposing team before the clock runs out across four quarters. On defense, use your attacks to knock down the ball handler and steal possession. On offense, you can pass to your teammate, shoot for the basket, and pull off signature dunks.

Tips
- Time your blocks: Wait for the opposing player to commit to their shooting motion before you jump to block. Defending too early will leave you wide open.
- Shatter the backboard: Certain heavy dunks can actually shatter the glass backboard, adding to the game's over-the-top, aggressive style.
