Released in 1982, Apocaljpse Now—intentionally spelled with a “j”—is an obscure arcade bootleg of the classic helicopter action game Rescue. This unlicensed version retains all the intense, multi-directional shooter gameplay of the original while adopting a title inspired by the famous 1979 film.

How to Play

You pilot a rescue helicopter tasked with saving airmen parachuting into the ocean. Catch them before they hit the water while evading or destroying enemy choppers, submarines, and ships. Since this is an emulated arcade cabinet, use Shift to insert coins and Enter to start. Control your flight path with the Arrow Keys, and use Z or X to fire.

Tips

• Prioritize falling airmen: Friendly targets are vulnerable to sharks once they land in the water, so grab them out of the air whenever possible.
• Balance your altitude: Flying high exposes you to enemy helicopters, while dipping too low puts you in the firing line of ships and submarines.
