Nemesis II (released as Gradius: The Interstellar Assault in some regions) is a classic side-scrolling shoot ’em up developed by Konami for the Game Boy in 1991. Piloting the iconic Vic Viper starfighter, you must navigate through treacherous alien environments and defeat waves of enemy forces using the series’ signature power-up system.
How to Play
Pilot your ship through each stage while shooting down enemies and avoiding terrain. Collect power-up capsules left behind by certain enemy formations to advance your power meter, then activate the highlighted upgrade to strengthen your ship.
- Movement: D-pad (mapped to Arrow Keys)
- Shoot: A / B buttons (mapped to Z / X)
- Select Power-up: Start / Select (mapped to Enter / Shift)
Tips
- Build Speed First: Grab the first one or two power-ups to increase your ship’s movement speed before investing in weapons, as the default speed is too slow to dodge later attacks.
- Protect Your Options: The “Option” power-ups create indestructible clones that follow your movement path and duplicate your firepower. Position your ship carefully to sweep the screen with their combined attacks.
- Adapt Your Arsenal: Different weapon configurations work better in certain stages. Switch between the Ripple Laser’s wide spread and the standard Laser’s piercing damage depending on the level’s layout.
