Alley Cat is a charming 1984 action-platformer designed by Bill Williams and published by Synapse Software Corporation for DOS. You take on the role of Freddy the cat, navigating a perilous alleyway full of clotheslines and garbage cans to leap into open apartment windows. Once inside, you face various feline mini-gamesโsuch as diving into a fishbowl, catching mice in an oversized cheese, or drinking milk among sleeping dogsโall to win the affections of a female cat.
How to play
The objective is to successfully complete the mini-game inside an apartment room to return to the alley and eventually reach the special cat rescue stage. To play, use the Arrow Keys to run and jump around the screen. Because DOS games rely on original keyboard mappings, the controls in the browser are mapped directly to your keyboard. For fullscreen, press Right Alt + Enter.
Tips
- In the alley, watch out for items like phones and shoes dropping from the windows, as they will knock you off the clotheslines and down to the bulldog below.
- When inside an apartment, the broom won’t hurt you directly, but it can push you around or sweep you right back out the window.
- In the fishbowl challenge, keep an eye on your air supply (your cat turns blue when running out of air) and avoid the electric eels swimming across the bowl.
