Developed by Intelligent Systems and Nintendo in 1988, Famicom Wars for the NES laid the groundwork for the legendary Advance Wars series. As a turn-based strategy game, it challenges you to outmaneuver the enemy army by capturing cities, managing funds, and deploying a variety of ground, air, and naval units across distinct maps. This version features a complete English translation, making the tactical depth of the original Japanese release fully accessible.
How to Play
Your objective is to defeat the opposing army either by destroying all their units or by capturing their headquarters. Each turn, you collect funds from captured properties to deploy new units from your bases, airports, and ports. Use the arrow keys (D-pad) to move the cursor across the grid map, press Z (A button) to select units or confirm actions, and X (B button) to cancel or view unit attack ranges. Press Enter (Start) to open the menu or end your turn.
Tips
- Infantry and Mechs are the only units capable of capturing properties. Prioritize deploying them early and protect them with stronger units to secure funding.
- Understand the terrain: attacking from mountains or woods gives your units a significant defensive bonus compared to engaging on roads or plains.
- Artillery and Rockets have indirect fire capabilities. Position them behind mountains or frontline units where they can attack safely without triggering a counterattack.
