Soko-Ban is a classic puzzle game originally created by Thinking Rabbit, with this 1988 port brought to the Game Gear by Spectrum HoloByte. You play as a warehouse worker tasked with pushing crates onto designated storage spots within a crowded warehouse.
How to play
The objective is to move every crate onto a marked storage location. You can only push cratesโnever pull themโand you can only push one crate at a time. The controls map the Game Gear D-pad to your keyboard arrow keys for movement. Use Enter for Start, X for Button 1, Z for Button 2, and Shift to reset the current game. You can save your progress with F7 and load it with F8.
Tips
- Avoid corners: Pushing a crate into a corner makes it permanently stuck. Be equally careful around flat walls, as pushing multiple crates against an edge can also trap them.
- Think in reverse: It often helps to look at the target spots and plan the path backward to determine the final few moves before committing to a push.
- Save frequently: Since a single wrong move can render a puzzle unsolvable, use the F7 quick save after successfully completing a tricky sequence.
