Game description:

Released for the Super Nintendo in 1993, Art of Fighting (Europe) is a classic 2D fighting game originally developed by SNK and ported by Takara. It stands out from other fighters of the era with its massive character sprites, dramatic visual battle damage, and a gritty story mode following martial artists Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia as they fight through South Town’s criminal underworld to rescue Ryo’s kidnapped sister, Yuri.

The goal of the game is to defeat a series of opponents in one-on-one combat. A defining feature is the Spirit Gauge, which is drained when you use special attacks; if it runs out, your special moves become significantly weaker. You can restore your gauge by charging, or taunt your opponent to drain theirs.

Default SNES Controls:

  • D-Pad (Arrow Keys): Move, jump, and block
  • Face Buttons (Z, X, A, S keys): Punch, Kick, and Heavy Attacks
  • Start / Select (Enter / Shift keys): Start game, Pause, or Taunt

Tips:

  • Manage your Spirit Gauge: Don’t spam your special moves. A depleted gauge makes your specials ineffective, so find safe moments to back off and charge it back up.
  • Use taunts strategically: Taunting your opponent drains their Spirit Gauge, which can prevent them from using their most dangerous attacks against you.
  • Watch for visual cues: As characters take damage, their faces become bruised and their stances change, giving you a visual indicator of how close they are to defeat.
