Street Fighter II: Champion Edition is a landmark 1992 competitive fighting game developed by Capcom for the Arcade. As the first major update to the legendary Street Fighter II, this version revolutionised the series by finally allowing players to take control of the four Shadaloo boss characters: Balrog, Vega, Sagat, and M. Bison. It also introduced the ability for both players to choose the same character, resulting in intense mirror matches with alternate colour palettes.
How to Play
The objective is to defeat your opponent in a best-of-three rounds martial arts tournament. Deplete their health bar by landing strikes, throws, and special moves. As an arcade game, it uses an 8-way directional joystick for movement, jumping, and blocking, alongside a 6-button layout (three punch strengths and three kick strengths). In the browser, these inputs are typically mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys and the A, S, D, Z, X, C keys, but using a connected controller is highly recommended for executing complex special moves.
Tips
- Exploit block damage: Special moves like M. Bison’s Psycho Crusher or Ryu’s Hadouken deal a small amount of damage even if the opponent blocks them. Use this to safely finish off enemies with very low health.
- Master the cross-up: Jump over your opponent and use an attack with a wide hitbox (like Ryu’s jumping medium kick) just as you cross their head. They will have to reverse their blocking direction at the last split-second, making it very difficult to defend against.
