Game description:

Slap Fight is a vertical-scrolling shoot-’em-up developed by Toaplan and published by Taito for arcades in 1986, released in North America under the title Alcon. This page runs Bootleg Set 1, an unlicensed clone of the original arcade board that reproduces the same game outside of Taito’s official hardware. Piloting a lone starfighter across a series of scrolling stages, you fend off waves of alien ships and ground defenses while building up your arsenal through the game’s distinctive star-based power-up system.

How to Play

Your objective is to fight through each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end. Collecting star capsules builds up a counter, and cashing it in grants the upgrade tied to that count — 1 star for speed, 2 for shot power, 3 for a side shot, 4 for a wing upgrade (which briefly makes you invulnerable), 5 for a bomb, 6 for a laser, 7 for homing missiles, and 8 for a shield. Use the arrow keys to move your ship, press 5 to insert a coin and 1 to start, Ctrl to fire your primary weapon, and Alt to cash in your star upgrade.

Tips

Don’t grab a star capsule the moment it drops — waiting for a higher count trades a small, cheap boost for a far stronger one like the laser or shield. When you do cash in the wing upgrade, use its brief invulnerability window to punch straight through a tight enemy formation instead of just dodging around it.
