Garuka (widely known internationally as Devastators) is a behind-the-back, pseudo-3D run-and-gun arcade game developed by Konami in 1988. In this intense action shooter, you control a mercenary taking on a hostile army to topple a dictator. The game stands out from other shooters of its era with its unique forward-scrolling perspective that lets you advance toward the horizon while dynamically using scattered obstacles for cover.
To play in your browser, use the arrow keys to move and aim. Holding Up advances your character deeper into the stage. Press Z to fire your primary weapon and X to toss explosive grenades. Press Enter to insert a virtual coin, and Shift to start. Survival depends heavily on your ability to quickly duck behind walls, sandbags, and debris to avoid incoming enemy fire.
When advancing, keep an eye out for watchtowers and stationary turrets, prioritizing them before they pin you down. Conserve your limited supply of grenades for clustered enemy squads or challenging end-of-stage boss encounters.
