Aero Fighters (known as Sonic Wings in Japan), released in 1992 by Video System for the arcade, is a fast-paced vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up that lets you take the stick of distinct fighter jets from four different nations. Players can choose pilots from the USA, Japan, Sweden, or the UK, with each aircraft featuring its own unique primary firing pattern, sub-weapons, and devastating screen-clearing bombs.
How to Play
Your objective is to fly over enemy territory, dodging incoming fire while destroying hostile aircraft, tanks, and massive stage bosses. Collect ‘P’ power-ups to upgrade your main cannon and ‘B’ icons to restock your bomb payload. For arcade browser emulation, use the Arrow Keys to maneuver your plane, press Z to shoot, X to deploy a bomb, and use Shift/Enter to insert a coin and start the game.
Tips
- Each character’s bomb has a different active duration. For instance, Hien’s ninja-themed bomb offers a long period of invincibility, giving you plenty of time to escape dense bullet patterns.
- When your weapon is fully upgraded, collecting an additional ‘P’ item will grant a temporary super-powered state. Use this brief window of maximum firepower to melt down large targets and bosses.
- Don’t hoard your bombs! Use them defensively as a panic button when cornered by enemy fire; losing a life also resets your power level, which is far more punishing than spending a bomb.
