Zero Wing is a 1991 side-scrolling shooter for the Sega Genesis, developed by Toaplan. While it features challenging shoot-’em-up mechanics where you pilot the ZIG spacecraft against alien forces, the game is arguably most famous for the poorly translated introduction sequence in its European release, which spawned the legendary “All your base are belong to us” internet phenomenon.
How to Play
As a horizontal shooter, your objective is to survive relentless waves of enemies and defeat the boss at the end of each stage. Your ship, the ZIG, is equipped with a unique tractor beam weapon. Use the D-pad (mapped to your browser’s arrow keys) to maneuver your ship. Press A or C (mapped to the Z and C keys) to fire your primary weapons, and press B (mapped to the X key) to activate the “Prisoner Beam”, which can capture smaller enemies.
Tips
- The Prisoner Beam is your most valuable tool. Constantly grab smaller enemies to shield yourself from frontal attacks.
- When you have an enemy captured, press the B button again to hurl them at larger targets for massive damage.
- Focus on memorizing enemy spawn patterns, as the screen can quickly fill with projectiles.
