Game description:

Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Capsule: Breed and Battle is a strategy and monster-breeding game developed by Konami and released for the PlayStation in 1998. Based on the popular Capsule Monster Chess game from the original manga, it challenges players to hatch, raise, and command their own team of monsters. Unlike the main card game series, this title focuses heavily on life simulation elements and tactical grid-based combat.

How to Play

The objective is to raise a powerful roster of monsters and defeat opponents in strategic board game-style matches. You begin by hatching eggs and feeding your monsters to improve their stats before placing them on the battlefield. Battles take place on a grid where positioning and elemental matchups determine the outcome. Using standard PlayStation controls, navigate menus and move pieces with the D-pad, select actions with the Cross button, and cancel with the Circle button. The shoulder buttons can be used to cycle through your available units or adjust the camera.

Tips

  • Focus on evolution: Monsters will evolve into more powerful forms if raised under the right conditions. Pay attention to what you feed them to unlock their best stats.
  • Mind the elements: Combat relies on an elemental rock-paper-scissors system. Keep a balanced team so you can always exploit the elemental weaknesses of your opponent’s monsters.
  • Control the board: Good positioning can overcome a level disadvantage. Keep your vulnerable monsters out of direct attack lines and try to gang up on isolated enemy units.
