Game description:

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters II: Yamikai Kettouki is a Game Boy Color card-battling game that Konami released in Japan on July 8, 1999, as the direct sequel to the original Duel Monsters GBC title. It nearly doubles that game’s card pool to 720 cards and adds a card-level and Duelist Level system, so a single-player campaign works through a roster of stage opponents before ending in a duel against Pegasus, with a few hidden characters to face afterward.

How to Play

Duels are built around a 40-card deck whose combined card levels can’t exceed the deck capacity earned by your current Duelist Level, so stronger monsters only become usable as you advance through the campaign rather than all at once. Compared with the first game, Magic Cards can now be played more than once per turn and your hand automatically refills to five cards each turn. This entry also introduces Trap Cards, which vanish unused at the end of the turn if not activated, and Ritual Monsters that require specific card combinations to summon. Fusion is expanded so fused monsters can be summoned straight onto the field, and a Summoning Clan system lets certain monster types instantly defeat others regardless of ATK or DEF, on top of the normal goal of reducing your opponent’s Life Points to zero. Connecting to a copy of the original Duel Monsters over a Game Boy link cable and trading specific cards triggers a “communication fusion” that transforms them into something new.
