Yankee Do! is a patriotic 1982 arcade hack of Universal’s classic maze-chase game Mr. Do!. Swapping out the original game’s clown and monsters for a distinctly American theme, players control Uncle Sam as he digs through dirt, collects items, and battles enemies depicted as sheiks riding camels. The core gameplay loop remains identical to its predecessor, but the visual overhaul replaces the familiar apples with oil barrels and the signature bouncing snowball weapon with a bomb.

How to Play

The objective is to clear the screen by either collecting all the targets, defeating all the enemies, or dropping the heavy oil barrels to crush your pursuers. Controls use the standard arcade setup: use the arrow keys to move Uncle Sam and dig through the terrain, and press Z or X to throw your bouncing bomb. You move significantly faster when digging new tunnels than when running through already-cleared paths.

Tips

• Use the terrain to your advantage: The oil barrels can be pushed off ledges to crush multiple enemies at once. Dig paths directly under them to set up traps.
• Manage your weapon: Your bomb bounces around the maze until it hits an enemy or you retrieve it. If you throw it in an open area, you might be left defenseless while it rebounds.
• Expect a steeper challenge: Yankee Do! is known for being noticeably faster and more difficult than the original Mr. Do!, so stay on the move.
