Yakuman is a traditional Japanese mahjong game released in 1989 as a launch title for the Nintendo Game Boy in Japan. Developed by Intelligent Systems, it offers a faithful recreation of the classic four-player tile game, adapted to be played against computer opponents on the handheld console.

How to Play

The objective is to assemble a winning hand of 14 tiles by drawing and discarding, aiming to form four melds (sets) and a pair. As a Game Boy title, use the D-pad to select tiles and navigate menus, the A button to confirm actions, and the B button to cancel. In your browser, these are mapped to your arrow keys, Z or X, and Enter.

Tips

• Pay attention to the computer opponents’ discards, as they often hint at the type of hand they are trying to build.
• Keep track of the Dora (bonus) tile; incorporating it into your hand can significantly boost your score if you win the round.
