Xtreme Sports is an action-adventure sports game released for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by WayForward. You play as either Guppi or Fin, exploring Xtreme Island to compete against the local athletes and eventually defeat the island's champion. Instead of just a menu of minigames, it features a full overworld where you talk to NPCs, find hidden medals, and unlock new areas by winning events.
How to Play
The game combines RPG exploration with five distinct extreme sports: skateboarding, street luge, in-line skating, surfing, and skyboarding. In the overworld, use the D-pad to move, A to jump or interact, and B to run or use items. The controls for each sport vary, but generally rely on the D-pad for steering and tricks, and A to jump or accelerate. In your browser, the Game Boy Color controls map to the arrow keys (D-pad), Z for A, X for B, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Explore the island thoroughly between events; many Twitchy Shakes (which permanently increase your stats) and secret medals are hidden in the overworld.
- In surfing, focus on landing clean tricks and avoiding obstacles rather than just speed to maximize your score.
