X-Men vs. Street Fighter is a legendary crossover fighting game developed by Capcom and released for arcades in 1996. Serving as the foundation for the Marvel vs. Capcom series, it pioneered the frantic two-on-two tag-team format. The game features a colourful roster of classic mutants and martial artists, allowing players to execute over-the-top combos and screen-filling super moves.
How to Play
Your goal is to deplete the health bars of both opposing team members. You can swap between your two chosen characters dynamically during the match or call your partner in for brief assist attacks. As an arcade title, the original controls use an 8-way joystick and a six-button layout. In your browser, movement is mapped to the arrow keys, with attacks generally laid out across the Z, X, C, and A, S, D keys. Use Shift to insert a coin and Enter to press Start.
Tips
- Recover Health: When a character takes damage, a portion of their health bar turns red. Tagging them out allows them to slowly regenerate that red health while resting in the background.
- Aerial Raves: Launch your opponent into the air (typically with crouch + heavy punch) and immediately jump to pursue them with an “Aerial Rave” air combo.
- Variable Combinations: If you have at least two levels of your Hyper Combo gauge filled, you can unleash a massive dual-character super attack by pressing both heavy attack buttons simultaneously.
