Originally created by Andy Davidson, Worms is the legendary turn-based artillery strategy game that brought explosive invertebrate combat to the Sega Genesis in 1996. Up to four teams of heavily armed annelids take turns navigating destructible, randomly generated landscapes, using everything from standard bazookas to exploding sheep to eliminate the opposing squads.
How to Play
The objective is simple: be the last team of worms standing when the dust settles. You have a limited time each turn to move your active worm, select a weapon, aim, and fire before the timer runs out or you take damage. In the browser, use the arrow keys (Genesis D-pad) to move and aim. Press Z to jump (C button), X to fire your selected weapon (A button), and C to open the weapon inventory panel (B button). Enter acts as Start to pause the game.
Tips
- Pay close attention to the wind indicator at the bottom of the screen before firing bazookas or tossing grenades, as the wind strongly affects their trajectory.
- The Ninja Rope is an incredibly versatile mobility tool; you can fire weapons or drop dynamite while swinging to launch attacks from unexpected angles.
- Don’t forget that water is instantly lethal to worms. Knocking an enemy off the edge of the map or destroying the land beneath them is often more efficient than draining their health.
