Game description:

World Series Baseball ’98 is Sega’s 1997 baseball simulation for the Sega Genesis. Serving as the final 16-bit installment in their flagship sports franchise, the game features complete MLB rosters and stadiums from the 1997 season. It retains the series’ signature behind-the-batter perspective, offering a tight, realistic duel between the pitcher and the hitter that demands precise timing and pitch reading.

How to Play

Compete in exhibition games, full seasons, or the playoffs using real MLB teams. The standard Sega Genesis controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow Keys to aim pitches or move your batter’s contact zone, Z, X, and C to swing, pitch, and throw to specific bases, and Enter to start or pause. When fielding, the directional keys combined with the action buttons determine which base you throw to.

Tips

  • On offense, commit to a pitch location early. Chasing breaking balls across the plate with the contact zone usually results in weak grounders or pop-ups.
  • When pitching, mix up your pitch types and speeds. Relying solely on fastballs will let the AI time your throws and hit home runs.
