World Series Baseball is a milestone 1994 sports release for the Sega Genesis, developed by BlueSky Software. Rather than relying on the traditional top-down or isometric views of the era, it completely revolutionized virtual baseball by introducing the “catcher’s cam”โplacing the batter’s perspective directly behind home plate. Featuring an official MLBPA license with real rosters, stat tracking, and a full 162-game season mode, it set a new standard for realism in 16-bit sports games.
How to play
Timing and pitch recognition are everything at the plate, while pitching requires carefully placing the ball within the strike zone. You can play a quick exhibition match, dive into a full season, or compete in the Home Run Derby.

Tips
- Watch the pitcher’s release: Pay close attention to the ball as it leaves the pitcher’s hand. Fastballs come straight, while curveballs will visibly break away from the center line.
- Work the corners: When pitching, try to paint the corners of the strike zone. Throwing heat right down the middle will quickly result in giving up home runs.
