World Class Leaderboard Golf is a challenging 16-bit golf simulation developed by Tiertex Design Studios and published by U.S. Gold for the Sega Genesis. Stepping away from the arcade feel of many other sports games of its era, it delivers a demanding simulation complete with digitized voice commentary. You can hit the links on three real-world coursesโincluding St. Andrews and Cypress Creekโalong with a punishing custom fantasy course called the Gauntlet.
How to Play
The game uses a classic three-click swing mechanic rather than a simple real-time power meter.
To take a shot using the default browser controls, use the Arrow Keys to aim your shot, select your club, and adjust your stance. Press Z or X (mapping to the Genesis A or B buttons) to begin the swing, press it again to set the shot’s power, and a third time to snap your accuracy and avoid a slice or hook.
Tips
- Pay close attention to the wind indicator; a strong crosswind will aggressively push your ball off course, so aim into the wind to compensate.
- Spend time on the driving range and putting green practice modes before tackling the main courses, as the distance perception and strict swing timing take practice to master.
