Developed by Sensible Software and published by Ocean in 1987, Wizball is a distinctive horizontally scrolling shooter for DOS. Players take control of Wiz, a wizard tasked with restoring color to a series of monochrome landscapes after they were drained by the evil Zark. Instead of simply surviving to the end of a level, you must shoot enemies to extract drops of colored paint, catching and mixing them in cauldrons to permanently revive the scenery.
How to play
Your objective is to re-color all the landscapes by collecting the correct paint droplets. Initially, Wiz can only bounce in his spherical form. By shooting enemies and collecting green pearls, you can buy weapon upgrades to fly freely and summon your familiar, Catellite, who does the paint collection for you.
| Control: |
Game is controlled by the same keys that are used to playing under MS DOS. For fullscreen press ‘Right Alt’ + ‘Enter’. |
Tips
Focus entirely on gathering upgrades early in the run; buying the anti-grav upgrade and summoning Catellite are essential before you can safely gather paint. When controlling Catellite to catch droplets, you can leave Wiz hovering in a safe spot so you do not risk losing a life while you hunt for colors.
