Wagyan Land (often known as Wagan Land) is a classic 1989 action-platformer developed by Namco for the NES. You play as a small, green mechanical dinosaur on a quest to save his homeland from the villainous Dr. Devil. This specific version includes the English translation patch by AlanMidas, which is essential because the game features unique, language-based boss encounters that were originally in Japanese.

How to Play

The goal is to navigate through various platforming stages, dodging hazards and enemies. Wagyan’s primary attack is quite unusual: instead of destroying enemies, he shoots sound waves from his mouth (shouting words like “Wah!” and “Gah!”). Hitting an enemy with a sound wave temporarily freezes them, allowing you to safely jump on them and use them as platforms. At the end of major stages, boss battles are resolved not through combat, but by playing minigames like Shiritori (a word-chain puzzle) and a number-finding memory game.

Tips

• During the Shiritori boss battles, remember that many pictures have alternative names. If you’re stuck, try thinking of synonyms to keep your word chain going.
