Game description:

Ultimate Qix, released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis, is an engaging sci-fi update to the classic territory-capture arcade formula. Originally known as Volfied in arcades, the game tasks players with piloting a small ship to carve out sections of a hostile, alien-infested screen.

How to Play

The objective is to claim a specific percentage of the screen by drawing lines to close off areas. Your ship is safe while moving along the outer perimeter, but heading into the playfield to draw lines leaves you vulnerable to the large boss and smaller roaming enemies. Use the D-pad (mapped to your arrow keys) to move, and hold down A, B, or C (mapped to Z, X, or C) while moving to cut into unclaimed territory.

Tips

  • Claiming territory that contains block power-ups, like speed boosts or lasers, can give you a quick advantage on difficult levels.
  • Wait for the main boss to move away from where you intend to cut. Trying to claim too much space at once is risky and leaves you exposed.
  • Try to trap the smaller enemies within the areas you draw to eliminate them and score extra points.
