Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Europe) is the 1996 PAL release of the SNES port of Midway’s arcade update to Mortal Kombat 3. Ported by Avalanche Software and published by Williams Entertainment, it restores nearly the full 23-fighter arcade roster — including Scorpion, Reptile, Jade, Kitana, and series newcomer Rain — straight from the start-up screen, no unlocking required. With its Dial-a-Combo system, brutal Fatalities and Brutalities, and expanded multiplayer modes, it stands as one of the most complete home conversions of the arcade original.
How to Play
Pick a fighter and win two rounds to take the match, working your way up the ladder toward Motaro and Shao Kahn. The SNES controls map to your keyboard: use the Arrow keys for the D-pad to move and jump, the X, Z, S, A keys for your High/Low Punches and Kicks, and Q, W for Block and Run. Enter pauses as Start, and Shift acts as Select.
Tips
- Use Run to close distance: Tapping Run while moving forward lets you dash into range fast, which is essential for starting combos before your opponent can react.
- Try the multiplayer modes: Beyond standard versus, this port includes a 2-on-2 Kombat mode and an 8-Player Tournament mode — hold Block + Run and press Start at the title screen to reach the tournament bracket.
- Anti-air with a crouching uppercut: Down + High Punch is a fast, reliable way to knock jumping opponents out of the air.
