Released in 1989 by Capcom, U.N. Squadron (also known as Area 88) is a classic side-scrolling shoot ’em up that brings intense aerial combat to the arcade. Based on the manga series, the game lets players take control of mercenary pilots flying various fighter jets to eliminate enemy forces and complete dangerous missions.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive waves of enemy aircraft, ground targets, and massive bosses. You earn money for destroying enemies, which can be spent between levels to purchase better planes and devastating special weapons. In the browser, press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start. Use the arrow keys to maneuver your jet, press Z to fire your primary weapons, and X to deploy your equipped special weapons.

Tips

• Rather than spending all your money on special weapons early on, save up for a more powerful aircraft like the F-20 Tigershark or A-10 Thunderbolt as soon as possible.
• The game uses a unique damage system where taking a hit puts your plane in a temporary critical state. Avoid getting hit again while your plane is flashing, but if you survive long enough to recover, you can safely take another hit.
