Tumblepop is an action-platformer developed by Data East and released for the Game Boy in 1992. Based on the popular arcade original, players take on the role of an exterminator equipped with a specialized vacuum cleaner. You must clear single-screen stages by sucking up various monsters and firing them back out as rolling projectiles to defeat other enemies.
How to Play
The objective is to clear each stage of all enemies before the timer runs out. Use the vacuum to pull enemies in, then launch them to create a tumbling ball that bowls over anything in its path. For browser play, the Game Boy controls are mapped to your keyboard: move and climb using the arrow keys, jump with the Z key (A button), and use your vacuum with the X key (B button). Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Chain Reactions: Wait for enemies to align before launching a captured monster. Taking out multiple targets with a single throw yields higher scores and reveals hidden items.
- Watch the Vacuum: Don’t keep an enemy trapped in your backpack for too long, or they will break free and cause you to lose a life.
- Collect the Letters: Gather the alphabet letters dropped by defeated foes to spell out “TUMBLEPOP” to unlock a special bonus stage.
