Game description:

Truxton II (also known as Tatsujin Ou in Japan) is a classic vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up released for the Arcade in 1992 by Toaplan. As the sequel to the legendary Truxton, this notoriously challenging space shooter places you in the cockpit of a lone fighter ship taking on the Gidans. It features Toaplan’s signature intense bullet patterns, massive screen-clearing bombs, and a memorable heavy metal-inspired soundtrack by Masahiro Yuge. The game is renowned among arcade purists for its sheer difficulty and relentless action.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive waves of enemy fighters and destroy the massive bosses at the end of each stage. Collect power-ups to upgrade your ship’s arsenal, which includes a wide-firing spread shot, a powerful straight laser, and a homing attack. You also have a limited stock of screen-clearing smart bombs to get you out of tight spots.

Default Browser Controls:

  • Insert Coin: Shift (or 5)
  • Start: Enter (or 1)
  • Movement: Arrow Keys
  • Fire Weapon: Z
  • Use Bomb: X

Gameplay Tips

  • Weapon Switching: The homing attack is fantastic for stage traversal as it seeks out smaller enemies, but it lacks the raw damage needed for bosses. Try to switch to the spread shot or straight laser before a boss encounter.
  • Point-Blanking: Getting close to large enemies and bosses allows all your shots to connect instantly, dealing massive damage quickly. Use this technique carefully, as it’s highly risky.
  • Bomb Management: The iconic skull-shaped bombs are your panic button. Don’t die with bombs in stockโ€”if you are cornered by a fast bullet pattern, drop a bomb immediately to gain invincibility frames and clear the screen.
